Los dos reúnen
grabaciones de Ike en su primera época durante los años 50, tanto en solitario como líder de los Kings of Rhythm y
junto a otros artistas. Vocalista, pianista,
guitarrista, compositor, productor, músico de sesión... todas sus facetas están
registradas en ellos.
De Down and
Out me gustaría destacar "I'm Lonesome Baby", su primer single
editado para Chess y producido por Sam
Philips. O la maravilla que es "Boxtop", primer trabajo de Little Ann
Mae Bullock que tiempo después pasaría a ser más conocida como Tina Turner.
Y en cuanto a "Long Gone Rocke", incluye parte de sus trabajos como músico de sesión una selección de temas que no podría haber sido mejor: Jackie Brenston, The Sly Fox (¡atención
al sonido de la guitarra de Ike!), Billy Gayles, Gardinias, Icky Renrut
(seudónimo de Ike)...

The best records of the year!
Maybe it's early to decide the best LPs of the
year, but I'm sure nothing can be better than these Ike Turner compilations
launched by Jerome Records at beginning 2012: "Down and Out" and
"Real Gone Rocket".
Both have early Ike recording sduring the
fifties, as a solo artist as leader of Kings of Rhythm and with another
artists. Singer, pianist, guitarist, composer, producer, session man.. Every side
of him is registered in them.
I would like to emphasize the song "I’m
Lonesome Baby", his very first 45 released by Chest and produced by Sam
Philips. Or the wonderful "Boxtop", the recording debut of Little Ann
Mae Bullock, better known as Tina Turner.
And about Long Gone Rocket, it contains some of
his works like session man. And the tunes selection couldn't have been better:
Jackie Brenston, The Sly Fox (pay attention to the guitar's Ike sound!!), Billy
Gayles, Gardinias, Icky Renrut (Ike's nickname)...
